New York Mets: Murphy’s On Sale

It’s not a secret that the New York Mets’ first baseman … uh, the Buffalo Whoever’s second baseman … uh, Daniel Murphy is the only baseball player I’ve ever liked.

He was the first baseman for the Mets last season. Then he got hurt and was playing in the Minors, his second game at second base, when some jerk Nancy Kerrigan’d his knee with a dirty slide and tore Daniel Murphy’s MCL.

Which, I guess, leaves him time to peruse the Internet, find this blog, realize that I’m his biggest fan, and send me an email so we can be penpals.

Maybe?

Anyway, this isn’t a sports blog, so why is Daniel Murphy showing up? Because I went to CitiField on Saturday [[two days after his sidelining injury]] and all the Daniel Murphy stuff was half off. Also, if you bought an inaugural bobblehead, you got a Daniel Murphy one for free. And if you bought a shot glass of any player, yup, you got Murphy for free.

I got a t-shirt that I kinda really always liked but never wanted to spend $26 on. And maybe I’ll wear it when Daniel Murphy takes me on a date to the stadium and we sit in the good seats.

Coupons Equal Cash Joins The Supermarket Social

I just finished watching the longest baseball game I’ve ever seen. Ever. Like I said on Twitter, thank goodness the Mets won. If not, I’d feel like I totally wasted my day.

So, now that it’s way past my bedtime, I’m checking the blog. And totally realizing that for whatever reason, my post about Lesa at Coupons Equal Cash joining the Supermarket Social never posted.

Ugh.

Totally sorry about that. To Lesa, and to you guys. Because you’re totally gonna benefit from her joining the Social. She’s bringing her Meijer deals to the Social, which are a little different than the deals we already post, so it’ll be great for those of you who have a Meijer around.

And be sure to check out her blog. She’s got a bunch of great deals that you definitely wanna check out. Be sure to welcome her to the Social both here and at her blog. We’re thrilled to have her.

Ninety Nine: Sox Win, Kids Eat

My friend Susan is a Yankees fan [[boo, hiss!]]. I grew up a Mets fan, but I didn’t follow teams or anything like that. I’d go to games, and if the Mets won that day, that was good enough for me. I didn’t care if that one win made the teams’ record 1-82.

Susan wanted me to get into baseball, so I told her I would … as long as I could root for the Red Sox. What’s the fun of sports without a rivalry?

Wouldn’t you know, that was the year the Red Sox broke the curse.

Since then, I like baseball a little more, and the Red Sox still have a spot in my heart. I root for them to win … and if you live close to a Ninety Nine Restaurant, you should too. See, Kristen from Frugality in the Making let me know that kids eat free at Ninety Nine the day after every Sox win [[the restaurant confirmed this on its Facebook page, by the way]]. This sounds like a great way to enjoy dinner out with the family … and cut the bill in half.

Free Sample: MLB Fan Packs

If you’ve got a baseball fan in your house, you’re gonna wanna thank Kristi at Spend Less and Save More.

Why?

Because she emailed me today with a list of email address for Major League Baseball teams. If you contact through the address, you should be able to get a free baseball fan pack. Her Red Sox pack came with two bag of dirt from Fenway, a Red Sox Calendar, a Sticker, and a photo of a player.

I’m hoping that if I email nicely, the Mets, they’ll send me a picture of Daniel Murphy. If you’ve got a favorite team, check out Kristi’s list below.

Let’s Go Mets

I love love love Daniel Murphy [[he’s the first baseman for the Mets, if you didn’t know]]. Last time I saw him play, he hit a home run and had four RBI in a 4-1 [[maybe it was 4-2]] win. He’s that good.

I always like the Mets [[boo, hiss, to the haters]], but I had a resurgence in caring since Daniel Murphy go on the roster

So, when I needed a filler item at Walgreens, and I saw a Mets reusable tote clearanced to 50 cents, the decision was easy. It’s the end of the season, so check to see if your team is on clearance [[although the way the Mets played this season, I’m shocked these weren’t on clearance months ago]].

Home Of The Mets

I grew up a Mets fan — and eventually turned into a Todd Ziele fan. Now I’m a Daniel Murphy fan, more because he gives the most absurd answers to the media and less because of his .247 average [[or his .000 average every time I see him, seriously]].

Anyway, when I went to see the Mets two weeks ago [[when my lovely Daniel Murphy went 0 for 3 with a walk]], there was an ad about how the new field was build by union workers. To commemorate this event, you can get a free pin from BuildItUnion.com. You can get either a Citi Field pin or a rebuilding New York one. I love my state and all, but I picked the ballpark.
